Full moon Party
The fun, crazy, and wild full moon party is what Koh Phangan is known for. It’s also what inspired me to visit the island in the first place. I’ve been to beach parties before but this one, in my opinion, is the best. I think what makes it so special and wild is because of the party goers. Just imagine, people from all over the world, after a relaxing sunbathing during the day, would head out somewhere at night with only one goal in mind- to PARTY & Party HARD. Ha!
Did I not say that most likely they’re tourists? Therefore, they’ve come prepared for this night and all the other nights. They saved up beforehand to buy all the alcohol they could drink to have an enjoyable experience on the island with their friends and families. So, in connection with my title, what you need to expect is that people will do everything to have an incredible night.
Feelings of excitement & fun…
Now that we’re clear with that, the moment we arrived at the venue, we immediately felt the high energies from everybody. To give you an idea of where the venues are, there is this one long connecting beach in the southeastern region where there are parties almost every night. Along the beach are resorts and clubs that play upbeat music for people to dance along. You will need to check the schedule online or ask your accommodation staff for details.
We arrived at 10 PM so it was a little early. People were just coming in for the party.
How to get to the full moon party
If you stay close to these parties, then you will only need to walk or take a tuk-tuk (taxi). You can always drive your rented motorcycle if you wish. However, I don’t recommend it if you will drink alcohol, which at some point, you might be tempted after seeing people having lots of fun. Prioritize your safety always.
Glow in the dark props and tattoos
Before entering and paying the entrance fee, we were bombarded with glow in the dark fake tattoos and paraphernalia. Prices of tattoos differ according to their size and complexities. Small ones cost 200 THB and it goes up. Try to ask for a discount because you might get one.

In my case, I bought three colorful bracelets which glow in the dark for only 10 THB each. The secret is I asked the seller in Thai, “Ani, taw lai na kha?”. If I asked in English, she could have sold it to me for 50 THB per piece. That was how expensive everything in Koh Phangan is. One other example is the use of the restroom in almost all resorts, they charge one person, 20 THB. Unfortunately for me, I couldn’t pee on the beach like all the men that night. But since I mentioned crazy night, I meant, girls urinating like men on the beach too. Ha!
Alcohol everywhere…
In addition, vendors selling alcohols are everywhere too. They sell it in buckets or per bottle and one bucket costs at least 250 THB.
While walking along the beach, we heard different kinds of music being played from pop to rock. Gauge your mood and dance to whatever you feel like dancing. Craziness on the dance floor, or rather the sand floor includes girls wearing strings (covering the important parts) or totally topless. I guess everything can really happen in Koh Phangan particularly in Full moon party, huh?

By almost midnight, it got even better or worse, depending on how you see it. Some were very drunk, lying on the sand. I am not quite certain because it was dark but I might have seen someone skinny dipped too. =)
I, myself, didn’t go back to our resort without a sweat. If you know me personally, I love dancing because it’s an effective activity of burning calories in a fun way. So, we stopped where a DJ is rocking an upbeat song and for almost an hour, I danced like I don’t care. Ha!
Although I have to say, it was only what I did and drink one beer. But then, we went back to our resort pretty tired and sleepy.
Koh Phangan Full moon Party, Completed!
Full moon party is undoubtedly a great and fun party for travelers to Koh Phangan. Visitors of the island make unforgettable memories with friends and their loved ones. The saying, ‘whatever happens on the island, stays on the island’ will certainly be applicable to them. For sure, though, it’ll be a funny topic when they’ll reminisce about it years later.
For me, after that night, I came to the realization that these kinds of parties are too much for me anymore. Is it a sign of aging or something? Ha! Nonetheless, I am glad to have finally experienced this full moon party in Thailand. So, now, I can say- I’ve been there & I’ve done that!
