New Hobby

I’m excited to share my new found hobby on my blog, crochet. What else can we do with all this time at our fingertips? If I’m not working, I am stuck at home for long hours doing mundane chores like laundry and cleaning. And that’s about it. We all know it won’t be long for normal people to get bored as I did.

My Creative Aunt

I’m glad I’ve got a little creativity in me and am always up to learning new stuff. It also helps big time if you have creative and artistic people around you. My interest is mostly influenced by my aunt. I might have already mentioned her in one of my posts before. She likes arts and crafts making, gardening, among many other things. She loves a good challenge herself especially those she hasn’t done yet.

To tell you a short story about her, with this COVID pandemic, she initially wanted to do something that will help people in some ways. That led to her getting into cloth mask sewing in the beginning. For two months, her days were filled with sewing masks for front liners and essential workers in town. And she enjoyed doing it.

Then one day, she wanted to do something else, face mask adapters or some call it, ear savers. Some staff at work complained of experiencing ear pain or discomfort from wearing masks all day long. Wearing a mask for 10-12 hours a day will result in that. My aunt again wanted to help. She searched online for ways to fix the problem until she found videos about crocheting ear savers.

This a candid photo of my aunt who is fully engrossed in what she’s doing. She barely notices me at all. She’s making macrame, one of her projects pre-COVID. She loved doing it too before the masks and other things.

Crochet

That’s when I was hooked with crochet. It was confusing at the beginning which is normal when learning new things. I made many errors at first but I always try again. My first crochet product was a funny uneven looking one, it’s embarrassing. Later on, though, I became more confident and my strokes are more relaxed than before.

Guess which one is mine? Ha, I know you got it right but I’m proud of what I made in here.

As I said, with numerous trial and error, I became better at it. Until I made really cool pretty stuff like these.

These flower patterns are one of my favorites. I am thinking of making them as accessories or as a headband for young girls like my niece. They would love it, I’m sure of it.

Its Calming Effect

It’s an enjoyable activity for me. I’m quite surprised by its effect on me. While my hands are doing repetitive strokes, my mind wanders somewhere else. It has a calming effect on me, I don’t know why. I’m thinking of doing it more often to try new patterns that will keep me busy somehow.

Coasters are what I’m busy making at the moment. Maybe I can do something bigger and fancier in the future, we’ll see.

I’m curious about you, guys. Probably you found new hobbies yourselves too. I’d love to hear them.
