Hey, friends!
This is going to be a short post of my recent trip to Kalon Barak Skyline Ridge. It is one of the many top destinations to visit in southern Mindanao aside from the popular Sanchez Peak and Leyson Park. Kalon Barak is located in Malungon, Sarangani Province. It is famous for its relaxing ambiance, sea of clouds, if you’re lucky at early in the morning since camping is optional.
In our case, my friend and I only stayed for a few hours uphill. We rode up to the ridge in a motorcycle, it was a cute pink motorcycle not hundred percent suitable for a hill climb. But we reached the top so kudos to the motorcycle. We drove really slowly minding the sand or the small rocks on the road. It took us more than an hour from General Santos City to reach the place.
Concrete Roads
The good thing which my friend, who visited the place years ago, commented that the road has improved. They’re clearing them and some or most parts have concrete roads which makes it easier for visitors. There is also an option for others to trek it if you wish but be careful because we came across a snake, a cobra, going up. We got really scared afterward. Luckily, we weren’t bitten or anything but I wondered if we walked, how would we handle it?
Entrance Fee
Once on top, you need to pay the entrance fee of 100 PHP which includes a coffee from their mini store. You can buy snacks from there if you get hungry but expect a higher price of their goods. They sell chips, drinks, and food suitable for cold weather like noodles.
After payment, you must wear this bracelet inside.
I like that the place is perfect to visitors in all ages. For kids, they have a playground where they can run around while the adults take photos (for sure).
Even adults can enjoy the playground too.
In the afternoon, it became very foggy that I couldn’t see anything far away from me. We were hoping to get a glimpse of the sunset from the ridge but on that day, it was pretty obvious, we won’t get it.
Another thing I like was the lights around. They have this area which got me wondering what the purpose was for until that evening. It turned out that there are lights around which give a good effect on photos. I thought it was pretty boring when I first saw it.
You won’t appreciate it until it’s dark.
Tara!!! See? Pretty cool, right?
The temperature can also get cold in the afternoon until the evening so bring a jacket with you if you’re planning on staying long. If you know me, that would be something I wouldn’t be prepared for. Luckily my friend is the scout type so he saved me, as usual.
This is the site for campers. At that time, there were only two tents set up. If we had more time, we could have opted to stay overnight. Anyway, maybe next time.
Room/ Tent Rental in Kalon Barak
If you don’t have a tent, you can rent one for 300 PHP for small to 500 PHP for the large tent. Space rental is 200 PHP. If you much prefer to stay in a room, they also have rental rooms for as low as 1,800 PHP good for 2 people.
It was truly a short visit but it was a good one. With all my trips and adventures, I have realized that it’s not the place that makes the experience a good one or not, it greatly depends on the people you’re with as well. So far since I’m traveling in my home country, I have enjoyed all of them because of those people who tour me and accompany me around. Sometimes, we just talked about unimportant topics but oftentimes I caught myself talking about more serious stuff, adulting mainly and responsibilities that come with it. I’ve learned a lot from them and in the same way, I hope they’re getting some positive vibes from me too.
I hope you are all doing well wherever you are!
